Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status by his folk-inspired pop hits many of them based in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in the love of Colorado and then settled in Aspen. Denver's popular state anthems have drawn many people fans to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be a member. Denver is viewed as the embodiment of Colorado to people from all over. In my journeys, you encounter someone on the other end of the planet, someone from New Zealand and you say "I'm from Colorado and the first thing they say is"Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint as a folk musician which was Denver's first Top 10 solo hit. Danoff was the one who wrote the song inspired by Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear the song's early versions and was aware that it would eventually become a Top 10 pop hit. The song was performed in Washington D.C. to a large audience, Denver recorded it just days later.
