Winona Ryder, professionally Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. Parents named her Winona after her hometown. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder is a Jewish. Ryder believes that her father was from an ethnically Jewish background. Ryder is also half-sister to Sunyata Jubal. Her younger brother is Uria. Ryder was born in the United States and moved together with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. The family resided in an area without electric power. Ryder was a prolific reader due to the absence of television. Ryder began to take acting classes in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of 12 years old. Lucas was dismissed in the year 1986 and Ryder, then just 15 years old, was offered the role of a leading actor. Ryder was bullied at high school. Ryder believed that if she became an actor her behaviour would be changed. Unfortunately, that did not occur. However, she continued to pursue her goals. Beetlejuice which was a 1988 Tim Burton film, was her first big breakthrough. Ryder was able to continue playing characters that made a splash in various films. In 1993 she received two nominations to win Academy Awards. One of the nominations was for her part in The Age of Innocence.
