Ann was discovered at a Vogue Magazine fashion show by Gloria Schiff, an editor. Diana Vreeland ordered Ann to do her first Vogue photograph shoot with Richard Avedon within one week. Ann was among the United States' most well-known models, appearing on the covers of top magazines like Vogue Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and many other magazines. Ann modeled successfully for cosmetic companies such as Max Factor Revlon, Chanel and Europe in Europe following two years.
