Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993 in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the cousin of daughter of the singer Dionne. In Newark, Whitney began singing in the church choir as a small child. at the age of 15, she accompanied her mother backing vocals in Chaka's hit Im Every Woman from 1978. Her mother, Jermaine, and Lou Rawls were a few of the artists she backed up. She was also briefly modeling for Seventeen magazine in the year 1981. Her debut album Whitney Houston was released in 1985 and became the biggest-selling album by a debut artist. Singles such as The Most Beautiful Love of All, How Do I Know if You Give Good Love, and Save All My Love were all released off the album. They allowed Houston to reach seven US top tens which were higher than even those of The Beatles. It was the first US year the album sold over 3 million units. It went on to be purchased by 25 million people worldwide and earned her her first Grammy. Whitney was her first album.
